Friday noon luncheon. Cherry was one of 15 American students chosen to represent the YMCA at a Liberian work camp the summer before. The Americans worked with Liberian students to build a headquarters for the YMCA's program in Sinoe. The finished building became the center of its Community Service program, which worked extensively with boys in the area, and its library served a radius of about 40 miles. Cherry was active in the University YMCA and had been president of both his high school and state Hi-Y Councils. In 1955 he was a delegate to the Paris Centennial of the World Alliance of YMCAs, and in 1959 he attended the International Committee meeting of the YMCA in Toronto.
