Access and Advocacy: Can Unions Save Higher Education

Cary Nelson, University of Illinois English professor and president of the American Association of University Professors, in the opening lecture of the fall 2010 series "Deconstructing the American Dream." He described a planned AAUP/AFT collective bargaining campaign at UIC, criticized corporate research contracts, and argued that public higher education should be federally funded and free.
