The Future of the Universal Health Care Debate

Claudia Lennhoff, executive director of Champaign County Health Care Consumers, in the closing lecture of the fall 2012 series "Beyond the Rhetoric: Key Issues in the 2012 Elections." In Latzer Hall. University YMCA Executive Director Mike Doyle introduced her, recalling her role in the 1990s campaign for a countywide public health department. Lennhoff explained the Affordable Care Act's enacted and pending provisions, Medicaid expansion, Medicare, and the opposing voucher and block-grant proposals, then took audience questions on grace-period voting in Champaign County, cost shifting at local hospitals, nonprofit insurance co-ops, single payer, and CCHCC's consumer health hotline.
