Rabbi Rogerio Cukierman on the relationship between prayer and social justice action. He traced the phrase "praying with our legs" to Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel's letter to Martin Luther King Jr. after the Selma-to-Montgomery march, then recounted a rabbinical-student service trip to Mexico where the gap between the morning liturgy and the poverty around him led his group to retranslate and reimagine the service. Speaking soon after the Boston Marathon bombing, he argued that dialogue within one's own faith community is now harder and more necessary than interfaith dialogue. Spring 2013 Friday Forum.
