International Students, Diversity and Internationalization at Illinois

Nicole Lamers of the University of Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences examined the international student experience at Urbana-Champaign and the tensions between campus discourses of diversity and of internationalization. She presented enrollment data, referred to Stacy Harwood's earlier forum on racial microaggressions, described a pre-arrival course for incoming international undergraduates, and screened a short clip of two students discussing the "international" label. Audience questions followed on tuition inequity, immigration policy and post-graduation work.
