Mia Ives-Rublee
September 27, 2019

Mia Ives-Rublee, a University of Illinois alumna (2003-2007), recounted being adopted from Busan, South Korea, living with osteogenesis imperfecta, attending the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games at age 12, becoming the first wheelchair athlete to compete in her state's high school championships, and competing in wheelchair track at Illinois while majoring in sociology and taking part in Inner Voices and anti-mascot organizing. She described organizing disability inclusion and accessibility for the 2017 Women's March, then took audience questions on adoptee citizenship, mass incarceration, immigrant detention, ego in activism and active listening.
