Father John Dear, a Catholic priest, author and peace activist, recounted his conversion while hitchhiking through Israel in 1982, his 1993 Plowshares action at an Air Force base and subsequent imprisonment, coordinating chaplains for families after September 11, and recent work at the Vatican pressing for an encyclical on nonviolence. He linked active nonviolence to oneness with the earth and climate action, then took audience questions on Just War doctrine and his vision of world peace. Part of the spring 2019 series on resisting violence and building a culture of nonviolence.
