Rebecca Nagle
September 25, 2020
Selected highlight

Rebecca Nagle, a writer and citizen of Cherokee Nation and host of the podcast "This Land," opened with a land acknowledgement naming the Miami Nation and Peoria Tribe, then documented the systemic erasure of Native people from media, data collection and K-12 curricula, alongside crises of police violence, violence against Native women and youth suicide. She discussed Standing Rock, the elections of Sharice Davids and Deb Haaland, and the McGirt v. Oklahoma decision. A half-hour Q&A covered Cherokee language revitalization, Freedmen descendants' citizenship fights and policy priorities. Held online, in the fall 2020 election-year series on the state of democracy and participation.
