Supporting Formerly Incarcerated Students in Higher Education

Rebecca Ginsburg, co-founder and director of the Education Justice Project, presented data on racial inequity in higher education and argued that criminal-legal involvement is an underappreciated driver of it. She described a new initiative to make the Urbana campus welcoming to formerly incarcerated students, drawing on Project Rebound at Cal State Fullerton and Rutgers, and answered written audience questions. Cynthia Marcella of the University YMCA gave a land acknowledgment and announcements.
