Aimee Rickman, an ethnographer of youth and social technologies and author of "Adolescence, Girlhood, and Media Migration," closed the spring 2021 series on digital media technology. Rickman, who lived in Urbana 21 years and attended Friday Forums as a graduate student, argued that young people's social media use is a "media migration" driven by offline injustice, drawing on fieldwork with rural Midwestern teens and gender-minority youth in California's Central Valley. A Q&A on supporting youth and rebuilding offline civic space closed the hour. Held online. About 40 attended on Zoom.
