Emeritus University of Illinois professor Walter Feinberg presented his 2023 Cambridge University Press book "Educating for Democracy." He read passages on his eighth-grade history teacher and Woodrow Wilson's racism, on music and the "expressive curriculum" after 9/11, and on learning to divide fractions, arguing that the most important office in a democracy is citizen. Extended audience discussion covered adjunctification and self-censorship in higher education, charter schools, book bans, and his recollections of campus since 1967, including Project 500 and the Chief controversy.
