Multidisciplinary artist, activist and educator Olmeca delivers a Friday Forum talk, "ACTS OF RADICAL LOVE: A Conversation with An Artist in Rebellion," co-presented with the Center for Civic Education and Justice as part of its Conversation Café. He defines love as "responsibility transformed into action," traces his path through hip hop, Mexico and the Lacandon jungle of Chiapas, and lays out three principles: embracing words with your heart, trusting the unknown, and truth as unconditional love. He performs a spoken-word piece, "Spirit Untamed," then answers questions on his name's Olmec origins, the Zapatistas and NAFTA-era globalization, teaching, and hip hop as safe space. Michelle, assistant director of the Center, introduces him.
