Immigration Justice

A panel on immigration justice with Korinta Maldonado (Anthropology), Gio Guerra Perez, assistant vice chancellor for diversity and inclusive excellence, and Gloria Yen, director of the Y's New American Welcome Center. They discussed local immigrant demographics, the NAWC's welcoming plan and community survey, Illinois's RISE Act and DACA before the Supreme Court, indigenous migrants and Maya-language interpretation, and gendered burdens on immigrant women. The Y's new student engagement program coordinator moderated, and audience Q&A followed on historical precedent, advice for young Latina professionals, and local housing and employment.
