Cartoonist Keith Knight, creator of the K Chronicles, (th)ink and Knight Life and co-creator of the Hulu series "Woke," gave a slide-illustrated talk during Black History Month. After a student introduction, he read strips aloud and traced a history of cartooning as mass media and protest, from 17th-century Dutch prints to the 1898 Wilmington insurrection, World War II Black press cartoons and John Lewis's "March." He argued that Black history is American history, discussed redlining, mug-shot publishing and his blackmugshots.com campaign, and took audience questions. His artwork was on display in an adjoining gallery room.
