Mary Beastall

Chair, Board of Governors, 1997–1999; Trustee since 2008

Mary Beastall first came to the University YMCA for coffee and a doughnut in the K Room. She went on to serve on its committees and its Board of Governors, which she chaired in 1997–1999, the Y's 125th year. She was the second woman to chair it, after Priscilla Fortier. She later returned to the Board of Governors as treasurer and budget chair, and has been a Trustee since 2008, much of that time on the Trustees' Nominations Committee. She spent her career in education, first as a teacher and then for 25 years in the University of Illinois system offices.
