Betty Earle was the University YMCA's director of operations for 24 years, from 1990 to 2014, under four executive directors. She kept the Y's books, looked after its building and its rooms, took the boards' minutes, and was a friend and counselor to the students who lived on its third floor. As a University of Illinois student around 1968–72 she had held a Bailey Scholarship all four years. With Joyce Schields she proposed the attic sale from which Dump & Run grew, and for years she was the Y's carver of Thanksgiving turkeys and baker of auction pies. On her retirement the Y began the Betty Earle 3rd Floor Fund in her honor.
